Antique Spectacular

Coming next weekend, March 5th through 7th, it’s the Spring Antique Spectacular at the QCCA Expo Center, 2621 4th Avenue, in Rock Island, Illinois! This longstanding event, now entering its 14th year, will present more than 70 exhibitors for antiques shopping galore! The show will be brimful with a wonderful selection of fine antiques and collectibles for sale. Featured will be select antique dealers with unique merchandise from around the world. Attendees will have an opportunity, all weekend, to shop through the wide range of quality antiques. With the Antique Spectacular, there is always something to interest every collector including: furniture, art pottery, stoneware, books, prints, primitives, jewelry, silver, antique glassware, china, postcards, coins, quilts, dolls, toys, advertising, marbles, rugs, vintage textiles and period pieces. Shop, for a timeless treasure, that is new to you. November 6th through 8th, the Antique Spectacular show hours are Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is FREE and show admission is $6 and is good for admittance all three days. Friday Concert at Deere-Wiman

New Amana Colonies Exhibit

Looking For Talented People

The River Bandits are looking to tap into the deep talent pool of the Quad Cities area in search of pregame talent for the 2010 season, including National Anthem performers.
 
Talents could include anything from singing, dancing and comedy to knife juggling, fire breathing and sword swallowing.  Tryouts will be held at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. All participants will perform in front of a panel of celebrity judges and those selected from the group of participants will receive an invitation to perform on the field prior to a selected game at Modern Woodmen Park this summer.

In addition to the performance tryouts, the stadium will be open to the public for an open house. Guided tours will also be provided allowing fans a behind the scenes look at Modern Woodmen Park.

Seventh Annual Quad Cities Henry Farnam Dinner
All Day Event; 03/12/2010

The Seventh Annual Henry Farnam Dinner will celebrate two important Quad City sesquicentennial events: The first is the 1860 formation of the Weyerhaeuser & Denkmann Lumber Company in Rock Island. The lumber industry was fundamental to the nineteenth century vitality of Mississippi River towns in this area. Logs were harvested in Wisconsin and Minnesota and floated down the river for milling here. The 2010 Farnam Dinner will also celebrate the 1860 founding of Augustana College. Featured speaker for event will be Tom Rassmussen, the great-great grandson of Frederick & Sarah Weyerhaeuser. Mr. Rassmussen’s mother’s grandfather was born at the Weyerhaeuser mansion, The House on the Hill, which was donated to Augustana College in 1954. Mr. Rassmussen, who is a member of the Weyerhaeuser Family Archives Committee, will give an illustrated presentation on the formation of the lumber company and the history of House on the Hill. The evening’s program will also include a pictorial history of Midwestern logging, lumber rafts, and lumber milling presented by Gayle Rein.

Saturday, March 13 - It's the running o' the green at the annual CASI St. Patrick's Day Races, 1035 W. Kimberly Rd. in Davenport, Iowa, with a 1 mile family fun run/walk and a 5K race beginning at 9:30 am.  www.casiseniors.org
 
You'll be done with the run in plenty of time to see the annual Grand Parade on Mar. 13 with floats, bands, and family clans.  The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. in downtown Rock Island, IL.  The parade proceeds through Rock Island to the Centennial Bridge, and then crosses the bridge over the Mississippi River and marches into downtown Davenport, IA.
 
Immediately following the parade, a Post Parade Bash is held at the Col Ballroom, 1012 W. 4th St. in downtown Davenport from 1-4:30 p.m.  Entry to the Post Parade Bash is by membership, with $15 memberships available at the door.  The Bash includes food, drink, and entertainment.   www.stpatsqc.com/Weekend.htm

Boasted as the only interstate St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the nation, the Quad Cities Grand Parade travels through downtown Rock Island, Illinois, to the Centennial Bridge, then crosses the bridge over the Mississippi River and marches into downtown Davenport, Iowa. River Readings at Augustana

Chris Offutt will read from his work as part of The River Readings at Augustana, the college's community reading series. Offutt is an author native of Haldeman, Kentucky. In 1996, he was selected by Granta magazine as one of the Twenty Best Young Writers in the United States. A reception follows the reading.



LeClaire Trivia Nights

This trivia night will benefit local non-profit organizations such as the Library, Little League, Girl/Cub Scouts and the Civic Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with trivia starting at 7 p.m. Participants may bring beer, wine, snacks and soda. Water, soda and snacks will also be for sale. Up to eight people per table. $10 per person with a $50 table minimum. Everyone will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. Future events are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month except December and summer months.

The Lipizzaner Stallions are on their 40th Anniversary Tour. Producer Gary Lashinsky has incorporated all new music, choreography and routines in this anniversary edition with a major emphasis on the historical background and foundation of the Lipizzaner breed, from its original breeding and use as a horse of war to a horse of nobility and aristocracy to a living form of equestrian art.

The show emulates the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, Austria, in its presentation of Lipizzans, and maintains a traditional as well as entertaining performance similar in many ways to what you would see at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.
